In indoor settings, traditional GNSS signals are unavailable or unreliable due to the lack of a clear line of sight to the sky. While alternative indoor positioning technologies exist (like Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB)), they come with their own distinct challenges. Though widely compatible and easy to deploy, BLE relies on signal strength (RSSI) which is highly susceptible to multi-path interference and signal attenuation from walls, furniture, and other obstacles, leading to unstable and less accurate positioning. While capable of centimeter-level accuracy, UWB is heavily dependent on line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. It suffers from significant signal degradation and errors when trying to penetrate solid obstacles or thick building materials. Consequently, achieving seamless, high-accuracy indoor positioning remains a complex hurdle.
